When Herbert Cooper accepted a scholarship to play college football, he brought something special to campus. Enthusiasm! This athlete had a passion for sports and speaking. While enrolled as a full-time student at Evangel University he preached at various revivals across the United States.
After Herbert received his degree in biblical studies, he entered full-time evangelistic ministry and married his college sweetheart, Tiffany.
Herbert spoke at revivals, crusades, conferences, youth camps, and annual conventions. He taught God’s Word in the USA and beyond – at events in the Ukraine, Malawi, and Uganda. Sometimes his audience topped 15,000.
In Herbert’s last year of full-time evangelistic ministry, he preached to approximately 30,000 teenagers and adults. He spoke in more than 20 different states across America.
Things began to shift one day in April 2001. God was stirring the hearts of this young pastor and his wife. They were certain He was calling them to plant a new church. They knew it would be multi-cultural. They just wondered where the church would be. The couple paused, pursued God’s guidance, and the answer became clear.
About a year later, on May 12, 2002, Herbert and Tiffany held their first service at People’s Church in Oklahoma City. On that day, 65 people came to worship. Now the Cooper’s church is ministering to 4,000 people each week – and continues to expand.
